Tuition and Scholarships

Tuition

Tuition for the Smart Growth Leadership Program is $595 for Maryland local officials, county officials, and state employees, and $895 for individuals from out-of-state. The fee includes instruction, course materials, light morning and afternoon snack breaks, and lunches.

Ben Hyman Smart Growth Scholarship

The National Center for Smart Growth Research and Education also awards The Ben Hyman Smart Growth Scholarship covering the full cost of program tuition for one local government planner from Maryland. To apply, send a one page letter explaining why you are applying for the scholarship, to the National Center for Smart Growth, Suite 1112, Preinkert Field House, Bldg. 054, College Park, Md. 20742 or e-mail your letter to Molly H. Martin, Coordinator, (mhmartin@umd.edu). Scholarship applications should be received at least six weeks prior to the date of the course. The Ben Hyman Scholar will be selected and notified approximately one month prior to the beginning of the course.
